Project Management
The module introduces students to the principle, techniques and managerial issues, which form the process of project management. The area of study will focus in particular on project management in a construction context but will also make considerable reference to the activity in other fields of commercial and business activity to emphasize the broad applicability of the principle.
Teaching Objectives

To appreciate the roles and functions of project participants and organizational forms.

To develop an awareness of the form and influence of leadership in the project process and the relationship to a project’s success.

To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources.

To evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success.

To understand the means of evaluating success and failure in a project’s performance.
Assignment 1: Defining and Documenting a Project
This project introduces students to the definition of project management by working on a simple construction project. The students will be introduced to the roles of a project manager, client and other stakeholders involved in a project life cycle. They will learn how to identify project objectives and goals and strategize them to achieve a satisfactory project completion.
Assignment 2: Final Project Management Report
This project requires students to document the project management aspects of their final design project in their respective studios. The report will reflect the students’ understanding in the terminologies, knowledge areas, application of the tools and systems, planning whilst demonstrating their capabilities in discharging their duties as a project manager.
